How Talk Yoga Works

For clients who wish to explore the therapeutic benefits of yoga and meditation, Talk Yoga sessions in addition to applying yogic practices in counseling sessions.

Talk Yoga is also known as yoga therapy. The International Association of Yoga Therapists defines yoga therapy as “the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga.”

Crystal’s Talk Yoga sessions range from a more structured “30 minutes of counseling, 20 minutes of yoga” style, to a primarily counseling session with bits of breath work and mindfulness techniques interwoven, to a full session of yoga for focusing on home practice (see Yoga Private Instruction for when this is outside the context of counseling goals).

Deepening your mind-body connection through yoga with breathing and movement is a powerful addition to psychotherapy. Many clients find that experiencing yoga outside of a group/class setting relieves social anxiety and intimidation. It can also help you feel grounded and centered so you can truly focus on the issues you need to address in counseling, as well as feel more comfortable sharing with your therapist.

Do you ever think that you need time to slow down and reflect because life is moving so fast?  Slower times can help us with emotional concerns.
